I am a presenter of continuing medical education seminars. While presenting seminars and discussing the topic of medical cannabis it became evident that many clinicians do not have the information needed and many were unaware of the potential benefits of cannabis in a variety of conditions. Patients are using cannabis whether their clinicians know it or not and many are seeking out and using less reliable sources. I decided to enroll in the medical cannabis science and therapeutic’s master’s program at the University of Maryland’s School of Pharmacy. I graduated in 2021 in the first inaugural class with honors. My main area of interest is the microbiome. Several studies have indicated that cannabis can alter the gut microbiome and additional studies have indicated that the endocannabinoid system by interacting with gut microorganisms influences several diseases processes. Becoming a cannabis educator was a natural progression for me
My background in education has fueled my desire to share knowledge and promote responsible cannabis use. I firmly believe that education is key to dispelling myths, reducing stigma, and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about cannabis. By providing accurate and unbiased information, I strive to foster a safe and supportive environment for cannabis users and non-users alike.
As a cannabis educator, several aspects of cannabis education are particularly important to me. Firstly, I prioritize the dissemination of evidence-based information. It is crucial to separate fact from fiction and rely on scientific research to guide our understanding of cannabis. This ensures that individuals have access to accurate and reliable information that can inform their decision-making process.
Additionally, I place great emphasis on harm-reduction strategies. Understanding the potential risks and side effects associated with cannabis use is essential. By educating individuals about responsible consumption methods, dosage guidelines, and potential interactions with other medications, we can promote safe and mindful cannabis use.
Lastly, I believe in the importance of destigmatizing cannabis use and promoting inclusivity. By fostering an open and non-judgmental dialogue, we can create a space where individuals feel comfortable discussing their experiences, concerns, and questions related to cannabis. This enables us to address misconceptions, challenge stereotypes, and create a supportive community.
